The 1st XV faced Old Albanians on Sunday who came away with the a 0 - 49 win against the Blues.
The conditions made for hard work moving around the pitch and scrums were difficult to maintain dominance due to the lack of ground purchase.
The opposition were well drilled and executed some precision handling despite the weather. Space was often found around the outside of the Blues where they had been forced into battle at the rucks. Overlaps were difficult to defend but superb covering tackles from back of the match, Anna Krzyzanowska forced Old Albanians to work harder to get through the Blues.
When in possession of the ball, Newbury were able to make ground and threatened the away side on numerous occasions but the opportunities were not able to be converted into points as the defence were rapid in shutting down any openings despite hopeful phases of play and tactical kicks from Meg Mason.
Both the 1st XV and 2nd XV go away at the weekend playing Richmond and Camberley as their last fixtures before the Christmas break.
