Newbury u14 v Winchester

We had a difficult start to the day with only 12 fit players, the guys who were available tried their hardest and fell into a crumpled heap at the end of the match with nothing else to give!!
We came up against an extremely good Winchester side, who had excellent movement and support play, but having half of our forwards out made it extremely difficult for us to contest at the breakdown where the game was lost.
To the credit of all of the lads, they never gave up and they were working as a single team, trying to solve problems and keenly debated how to stop Winchester. You learn more about yourself and your team from defeat than you do from an easy win, an today the lads grew as individuals and as a team, here is an individual breakdown: -

Mikey Bhatt - The best we have ever seen you play, you played scrum half very well, digging the ball out and distributing to Nathan or Elliott very well with a high pass completion rate. Excellent game, well done
Elliott King - Your effort was only surpassed by the amount of mud you were caked in, your tackling was excellent and you ran the back play well, just demand that your support runner tell you where they are, and believe in your own ability more!
Joe Davis - Your pink top looked like it was made from mud at the end of the game, you ran excellent running lines, excellent tackling and never say die attitude. Well done
Marcus Carruzzo - Good defensive play, and you organised people to drift and we could hear you shout!!!! Your tackle rate was excellent. Well done
Kieron Cartledge - Once you had your game head on, you played very well and made a big difference to the team, between you and Callum had the upper hand over the Winchester forwards.
Callum Thirkill - You had a very good game, as with Kieron the pair of your made sure we won the majority of scrums, and you were very positive in all aspects of your play. Keep it going.
Xav Crossman - Another excellent game, high tackle success rate, you came up with with different options to defend against Winchester, keep it going.
Toby Holland - Captain Toby, some very good kicking today and chasing, but even if you know you won't beat the man to the ball, put them under pressure. Believe that you will get the ball, and you will be pleasantly surprised how often you come out on top.
Henry Javes - Can we book this Henry every week!!!! We had to play you out of position, but you were tackling like we had never seen before and you were very positive in all aspects of your game. Keep it going!!
Alasdair Magee - A good strong game, good varied kicking, excellent tackling, just let people know you are supporting them!! Keep it going
Rory McCulloch - Playing at flanker, your put everything into the tackle and you made most of your tackles. Keep it going
Nathan Moore-Mason - Working closely with Mikey, you provided our platform to attack and you consistently got the ball to Elliot and Toby with good accurate passing. Well done, keep it going
