Tigers Tamed!

On Sunday 20 November, Newbury RFC U14s travelled away to Tadley RFC for the first time as a group of players. As with previous friendlies, the match was played across four quarters of 15 minutes. The opening exchanges in the first quarter showed both teams to be well-matched and competitive in all areas of the game. Tadley ran strongly both from number 8 and through their big centres and the Blues did well to nullify the attacking threat. The boys then began to find the edge in the loose, with some powerful running from Louis, Ethan and Roger in particular and the pressure began to have its effect. The first quarter saw a brace of tries from Roger, barrelling through the defence, followed by one from Ethan The teams turned round with Newbury 17-0 up. The second quarter saw the Blues pull away strongly, although conceding a try, finishing at the halfway mark ahead by 31 to 7. There was a different tale in the third quarter with Tadley coming back strongly with a breakaway try down the flank and a second minutes later, putting pressure on a Newbury team which was slightly losing focus. A run from Louis from halfway managed to settle the nerves, seeing the fourth quarter end with the score on 38-19. Two further tries in the final quarter to one from a Tadley team, still battling strongly to the end, saw the Blues triumph 50-26.
