Newbury Women continue their success as they beat Henley for the second time this season.
With the wind howling across Henley’s ground, the autumnal weather has set in to stay.
Henley came out of the blocks early and utilised their flanker’s speed and agility to beat the Newbury defence getting the first score on the sheet.
Despite having significant possession, it would be Henley who scored again giving themselves a 12-point lead.
It took these early tries from the home side for Newbury to up the ante. Cleaning up their close contact handling, the Blues were able to create gaps in the Henley defensive line and were rewarded with Chloe Webber crashing through to score Newbury’s first try of the day.
Captain and forward of the match, Becks Reeves, continued this charge with another visit over the Henley try line. Paired with Faye Stratford’s kicking boot, Newbury pulled in front of Henley 12-14.
Now the Blues were rolling, they continued to keep the pressure on Henley and squeezed a further try in before half time.
After the change in ends, Reeves was flying through the defence repeatedly and rapidly. Three more tries for her kicked Newbury’s score on as they utilised their scrum to walk over the Henley pack and gain advantage even when possession was with the home team.
Henley tried to respond but even with a try on the final play of the game they could not come close to Newbury.
The Blues progress into the next round with a 29-42 win against the Hawks.
