Adam has now been involved at Newbury for 4 years, originally starting as a forwards coach. Having helped lead the women to an undefeated season, he was forced to step up half way through the Champ 1 season to become head coach, which he is now in his second full season of. Adam is also involved with CDPs for the minis and juniors coaches, to give coaches the opportunities to develop throughout the club for all levels of ability. He is a level 3 coach as well as a coach developer, whilst also being the forwards coach at Bath Academy U16s. Adam is incredibly passionate about rugby, and if he catches you for a chat in the car park after training, you might be there a while.
Favourite achievement this year...
“the growth of the Women’s section. The people who do our social media are incredible, they do such a good job, I’ve got no idea what its about but we get so many new players because of it. And then they stick around because it’s a great group of Women, the atmosphere is great and it’s a great standard of rugby across both teams.”
Looking forward to...
“some grass growing on the pitches. No, it would be the continued development of the Women. Who knows, maybe a third team?”
Rugby heroes ...
“as a coach, Rob Baxter, I think the mans life cycle within Exeter is absolutely phenomenal. Player wise, it would be some of the old schools, Martin Johnson, but also the likes of Joe Marler and what he brings to the game, and then some unsung heroes like Ben Kay.”
Favourite rugby moment...
“us lot beating Reading Abbey 50-0 for the first time ever last year. The development as a section was just confirmed in that moment and it really showed how far we’ve come.”
Most embarrassing rugby moment...
“having to dress up inappropriately on my first tour and carry a prop around, and all the moments that stemmed from that.”
I would most like to go for dinner with...
“Joe Marler for the banter, Jason Lenard, because he can drink, and Richie MacCaw because of his rugby IQ.”
Previous clubs ...
“Circencester, Swindon Colledge Old Boys, i was at Fairford for a short time as a teenager, a few others dotted about briefly. I coached at Whitney before here, and am also at Bath Academy as a coach.”
Prem team ...
“Gloucester. I’ve been a Gloucester fan since I was 6. Working for Bath Academy makes it even worse. It hurts my skin every time I put the uniform on.”
A skill I could have retired on ...
“an out the back door 20 meter pass. That would have been nice, but I don’t have the handles for that. I could tuck and run, that’s what I was good at.”
