Three NRFC Women play in longest rugby match …

Christine Morrell20 Jun - 20:38

…and helped to smash the Guinness World record!

Ellie Ferrie, Sarah Coleman and Roisin Winston made history this week when playing over in Ireland in a Women’s match which kicked off at 8.00am Wednesday morning and continued until well into Thursday.

And because it was an official world record attempt it was played to the laws of rugby like a normal game with full contact, scrums, line outs and mauls. Players were allowed regulated food and rest breaks or to get physio treatment etc.

As well as challenging themselves personally in this test of endurance., Ellie, Sarah and Roisin alongside 89 other players (there also was a Men’s game) were trying to raise over £100,000 for three charities in the rugby community:

Wooden Spoon - which supports children and young people
LooseHeadz - providing mental health support
British & Irish Lions Trust - offering support to former Lions players who might need it

The previous Women’s game record stood at 24hrs 05mins 15sec….. and despite very hot weather, they smashed it!! The new record stands at 26hrs 33mins !!!! (Although they played for 29hrs, time for water breaks didn't count.)

If you would like to make a donation in recognition of this amazing achievement, please visit “The Longest Game - Guinness World Record” JustGiving page at: https://justgiving.com/campaign/longest-game

Thank you.
