Walking Touch rugby

Newbury Walking Touch Rugby section is looking to recruit new individuals to join our friendly and enthusiastic group

Hung up your boots a few years ago? Never played rugby before? Rehabilitating from an injury? Fancy improving your aerobic capacity? Fancy a social get together with like minded people? Fancy doing a spot of exercise and improving your emotional and mental wellbeing?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then walking touch rugby may be just what you're looking for. The perception is walking touch rugby is for older people, all having a gentle stroll around a rugby pitch. However nothing could be further from the truth. Our group consists of men and women ages between mid thirties to seventy and the fast walking pace of the game is sufficient to get your heart rate up. The game gives everyone the opportunity to improve both fitness and skill levels.

A couple of weeks ago we were invited to a four club tournament in Thatcham. For some of the group it was the first time they had represented Newbury in a competitive game, for others it was a welcome return to participating in a team game against other clubs, and after all that, Thatcham RFC laid on a barbecue for players and supporters. There was a feel good factor all round. Roll on the next tournament.

Club sessions are held on the top pitch every Tuesday evening between 7.00-8.00 pm and then a few drinks, alcoholic or non alcoholic in Kickers Bar. Do come along, to watch initially if you prefer, or at least spread the word far and wide to encourage as many people as possible to join our enthusiastic, welcoming and friendly group.
