Bicester pull out of friendly late in the week

NEWBURY SAMURAI 35 v 12 NEWBURY MIZUNO

Bicester pull out of friendly

Saturday 12th August 2017, 3pm KO

Newbury form two equal squads and play each other as Bicester pull out of the proposed friendly
Blues coaches pick two squads from the available players and they play a robust friendly training game made up of 4 x 20 minute quarters in front of quite a few loyal Blues supporters. Not a bad day at the office as all players now get a good amount of game time and as usual no holds barred between team mates and brothers!!!!

1st quarter, Mizuno have the lion’s share of possession for the opening minutes but are unable to turn possession into points, Samurai win a penalty and have soon made the break through when some good attacking play is rewarded with Finn Walsh breaking through the Mizuno defence to score under the posts, Ryan Trevaskis converting 7-0 10 mins
Mizuno restart and are soon up to the try line but again are unable to get the ball down and give away a penalty, Samurai clear their lines and have the better of the next few minutes and on 20 mins have added to their score when after some good team play the ball is spun wide allowing winger Ewan MacGarvie to round the defender and score close to the posts, Ryan Trevaskis converting 14-0

2nd Quarter Samurai are now playing the better rugby and after 5 mins have increased their lead when another flowing attack results in Ewan MacGarvie crossing for his second try, Ryan Trevaskis converting 21-0
Mizuno manage to put pressure on Samurai and after several phases of play get up to the line but are held out by good Samurai defence, Mizuno win a scrum and are rewarded when they spread the ball out to new boy Rhys Davies who scores, Richard West kicking the conversion 21-7
The second half ends with Samurai camped in the Mizuno 22 but good defence holds them out and they are unable to break through

3rd Quarter Mizuno kick off the second half and both squads have chances to score but either good defence or mistakes stops them from scoring, Samurai manage to make the break through when after several phases of play the bal is spread out for winger Ewan MacGarvie to stroll over for his 3rd try, Ryan Trevaskis converting 28-7
The remainder of the quarter remains scoreless with both squads cancelling out the others attacks, the crowd wince when Toby Thorne puts in a big tackle on brother Dan, the quarter ends with Mizuno getting up to the try line and putting pressure on the Samurai defence but cannot turn pressure into points

4th Quarter from their restart Mizuno manage to steal possession and good meters are made by their backs before Toby Thorne dives under the tackle to score 28-12
Samurai have soon re-established their lead when they attack the Mizuno defence and from the ruck Joe Pigott picks up the ball and darts through to score Ryan Trevaskis converts 35-12
Both sides hotly contest the remainder of the game but neither are able to add to their scores.
