NEWBURY BLUES FINISH RUNNERS UP
Blues have a good day at Tring RFC in the Stan Wallis Cup
Saturday 19th August 2017, 1-45pm KO
Newbury Blues take a mixed squad to Tring and finish the day runners up
Newbury Blues are in a group with Tring RFC and Maidenhead RFC, Blues start with a 0-0 draw with Tring RFC and then follow up with a victory over old adversaries and Berkshire rivals Maidenhead with tries from Richard West and Josh Winfield, with West converting both.
The results put them top of their pool and into the cup pool for the next and final round of games.
The Cup pool is made up of Towcester RFC, Sidcup RFC and Blues, in their first match Blues beat old rivals Towcester 14-7 with Toby Pearce scoring both try’s and West converting both scores, but unfortunately lost to Sidcup 12 – 5, with James Lewis scoring the Blues only try.
With Towcester needing to beating Sidcup it was down to points count back and Towcester just have the better with a last minute try from their own line, so they end up top with Blues finishing 2nd
A great day’s rugby and a great squad effort with several players relishing the challenges of National Rugby.
