Newbury Blues recorded their biggest league win (since Sept 2012 when they defeated Swanage & Wareham 66-0) with a devastating second half display scoring 8 tries

Newbury Blues coaches only make one change to the Squad that won at High Wycombe last Saturday for the visit of Swanage and Wareham. The game is played on the top pitch 4 due to the waterlogged main pitch with a 2-15 KO; Blues are not deterred by the wet and windy conditions running in 11 tries, 8 of them in a great second half display.

Swans kick off with the blustery cross wind slightly in their favour, the rain just about holding off just a light drizzle, Blues gather and Matt Horne charges up field into Swans half, Blues keep the ball live and are rewarded with a penalty which is kicked to touch in Swans 22, lineout won Blues don’t get far before they concede a penalty allowing Swans to relieve the pressure.
Lineout won Swans still close to their 22 run out of defence but lose the ball in the tackle, Blues put pressure on the Swans defence and a deliberate knock on by Swans hooker gives Blues a penalty and earns him an early yellow card, Ryan Trevaskis kicks to the touchline giving Blues a 5m lineout, Blues win the lineout but a knock on halts their progress.
Blues pack shove Swans back at the scrum winning the scrum, the ball is kept with the forwards for a couple of pick and drives before being fed to Dan Thorne to score, the conversion just being blown wide 5-0, 6 min’s

Swans restart kick is taken by Blues and kicked back well in to their half, Swans gather and under pressure from the Blues chasers try running but get held up and after several phases elect to kick to touch just in Blues 22, Lineout won Ryan Trevaskis kicks long into touch well in Swans half, Swans lineout is not straight giving Blues an attacking scrum, Blues pack wins the scrum and the ball is spread through hands from Andy Herriott, Matt Horne to Ben Hicks then Josh Bartlett who feeds Iain Herriott who runs a great line to cut through the Swans defence to score under the posts, Ryan Trevaskis converting, 12-0 12 min’s

Swans restart, Blues catch and kick back into Swans half, a good chase puts them under pressure and their clearing kick sails straight out, back for a Blues lineout just outside Swans 22, Blues throw is not straight so Swans have a defensive scrum. Swans hold their scrum and kick safely to touch, Blues win their lineout and run at the Swans defence, which holds out and wins a scrum when Blues knock on. Swans win their scrum and kick up field, Jamie Futcher takes and runs releases Josh Bartlett who makes good ground before being tackled, Blues again knock on giving Swans a scrum in midfield.
Swans hold their scrum and run the ball making some ground before Blues infringe giving Swans a penalty then 10 yds for backchat, which they kick to touch, lineout won they maul up to Blues try line but knock on. Blues win the scrum and kick which sails out behind the try line giving Swans a 5m scrum, Swans pack hold their scrum and they put pressure on the Blues defence through several phases of play which manages to hold them out then get their hands on the ball allowing them to run out of defence. Blues don’t get far before they knock on giving Swans a scrum and a chance to keep up the pressure, scrum won Swans attack but a loose pass sees the ball roll into touch, Blues win the lineout and run the ball, Swans infringe giving Blues a penalty which is kicked to touch on half way.
Blues win the lineout and set off on another attack and get another penalty for a high tackle on Iain Herriott, which is kicked to touch, Swans steal the lineout but get penalised for not releasing in the tackle then +10 yds for chat kicked to touch, Blues win a 5m scrum at the lineout but get turned 90 giving Swans the put in at the reset scrum, Blues shove Swans pack backwards which allows Blues to steal the ball, Matt Horne picking up and crashing over for the third try the conversion just wide, 17-0 31 min’s

The Swans restart kick is caught by Blues who run back at the Swans defence but a knock on halts their progress, Swans win their scrum and run at Blues but lose the ball in the tackle, Blues kick out of defence and into touch, Blues steal the lineout and run at Swans but the mistake comes giving Swans a scrum, Swans are put under pressure at the scrum but just manage to hold on and get the put in at the reset, again Blues shove the swans pack backwards but illegally so Swans get a penalty.
Swans penalty kick stays in play giving Blues the chance to run out of their half, some good running rugby from Josh Bartlett, Matt Horne and Rob Drysdale takes play up to halfway where they win a penalty. Blues kick to touch well in Swans half, lineout won they maul up fields but knock on, Swans hold their scrum under pressure and kick to touch, Blues win the lineout and run the ball but a mistake brings the half time whistle

Blues kick off the second half with the rain starting to come down, Swans catch and kick to touch but the ball sails straight out giving Blues a lineout just outside Swans 22, lineout won Blues attack Matt Horne crashing through releasing Tom Sanders who draws the defender and then releases Josh Bartlett who dodges the Swans defence to score the bonus point try, Ryan Trevaskis successful with the long conversion, 24-0 42 mins

Blues are straight back on the score sheet when they take Swans restart kick, Matt Horne breaking through several tackles to make a good 50 yds before passing to Josh Love who canters over the line to score Ryan Trevaskis kicking the conversion, 31-0 44 min’s

Swans restart Blues catch and run but a mistake hands the ball to Swans who run the ball and win a penalty, they take it quick, Blues getting a yellow card for a tackle not 10 from the quick penalty and Swans another penalty, this time they kick to touch. Lineout won Swans attack the Blues but lose possession-allowing Blues to kick out of defence, Swans gather and run the ball winning another penalty, which they kick to touch, from the lineout their forwards maul towards the line but get held up by great Blues defence giving them the scrum.

Blues are penalised at the scrum, Swans tap and go and put serious pressure on the Blues defence and after several phases of forward pick and drive play spent close to the Blues try line they are eventually rewarded when their prop Gary Davies dives over to score Philip Graves converting 31-7 52 mins

Blues take the restart kick Swans gather and kick into Blues half, Blues gather and run back at Swans, Blues get into Swans half before they lose the ball and Swans kick to touch, the ball is straight out so Blues have a lineout well in Swans half, Blues take the lineout and Josh Winfield breaks through to make the final 25 yds to score, the long conversion is blown wide by the wind, 36-7 55 mins

Swans restart kick is taken safely by the Blues who attack the Swans defenders, George Robinson-Slater, Steve Denner and Josh Love making ground before Swans defence concede a penalty, Blues kick to touch Ryan Trevaskis with a great kick takes play up to Swans 5m line, Blues win the lineout and the forwards take over driving up to the line, after several phases camped on Swans try line Blues make the break through, Ben O’Shea crashing over and scoring wide out, again the conversion is blown wide 41-7 60 min’s

Swans restart kick is not 10 so back for a Blues scrum on half way, Blues win the scrum then a penalty which they tap and go, Swans get off side giving Blues another penalty this time they kick to touch, lineout won Blues attack and get another pen, ref has a chat to both captains, Blues kick to touch on 5m line, lineout won Blues forwards drive up to the line allowing Josh Winfield to touch down wide out on left, again the conversion is just wide, 46-7, 65 min’s

From the Swans restart kick Blues knock on giving Swans a scrum, the reset scrum is just held by Swans and they attack the Blues but concede a penalty at the tackle, Ryan Trevaskis kicks long to touch. Blues win the lineout and their forwards again attack the Swans defence but the slippery ball is knocked on, Swans scrum, Swans win their scrum and run the ball going through several phases before they lose possession, Blues attack and spread the ball through the hands, Andy Herriott to Dan Thorne to Jamie Futcher who releases Josh Bartlett to score Ryan Trevaskis converting 53-7 70 min’s

Blues attack from Swans restart, Blues forwards Tom Sanders, Jack Walsh and Kyle Doel driving up field and getting into Swans half before the ball is released to the backs Iain Herriott making ground before releasing Dan Thorne who has players outside but throws the dummy and breaks through to score Ryan Trevaskis converting 60-7 75 min’s

Swans restart kick is taken and Ryan Davis sets off on a great run but Blues infringe at the break down giving Swans a penalty which they kick to touch, Blues manage to steal the lineout and run back at the Swans but a knock on halts their progress, Swans win their scrum and run at the Blues defenders winning a penalty, Swans kick the penalty to touch, lineout won they put pressure on the Blues defence but after several phases in Blues 22 they lose the ball, Matt Horne breaks out of defence and makes a great run bursting through several tackles getting into Swans half before releasing Ryan Davis who makes the last 35 yards to score a great try, Blues forwards in the blink of an eye have gone nearly the full length of the pitch, Ryan Trevaskis kicks the conversion bringing the score to 67-7 and the final whistle
