Newbury Blues score early then outplay Swindon scoring 12 try’s and amassing 85 points, Blues mean defence meant Swindon remained scoreless

Blues are forced to make a late change on Friday night due to Kris Fords injury not clearing up, Richard West coming in at 10, this means the backs are rearranged to suit.

Swindon kick the match off in front of a large Blues crowd, Blues take and put up a high kick which Swindon knock on, Blues win the scrum and quickly spread the ball wide through the backs to Harvey North who hands off the Swindon defenders to sprint up the touchline and back under the posts to touchdown, Dan Thorne converts, 7-0 2 mins

Swindon take the restart kick, Blues gather and set off in attack, Alex Bancroft makes the break and then sends a neat grubber kick deep into Swindon’s half, Swindon gather and take play up to their 10mline before knocking on, Blues are shoved back at the scrum and then concede a penalty which Swindon kick to touch in Blues half. Lineout won Swindon run at Blues but good defence means they are pushed backwards into their own half, they win a scrum when Blues knock on in the tackle.
Swindon win a penalty at the scrum and kick to touch, from the lineout Swindon attack before putting up a high kick, Alex Bancroft catches and calls the mark which is kicked to touch just outside their own 22. Swindon win their lineout and run at Blues but spill the ball, Blues gather and set off on another attack which ends when they knock on, Swindon under pressure at the scrum just hold onto the ball but the ball ends up in touch, Blues win their lineout and the ball is spread wide allowing Alex Bancroft to weave his way through the despairing Swindon defence to score under the posts, Dan Thorne converts 14-0 14 mins

Swindon’s restart kick is taken by Kyle Doel who charges through several tackles before the ball is released to the backs who take play well into Swindon’s half before an illegal tackle ends up with an injury time out for the Swindon tackler and he gets a yellow card, Blues kick the penalty to touch in Swindon’s 22.
Lineout won Blues forwards pick and drive getting up to the try line and win a penalty which is slotted into touch, Blues again attack from the 5m lineout and soon have another penalty which Richard West kicks through the posts 17-0 20 mins

Alex Millar catches Swindon’s restart kick and sets off on one of his runs before the backs make more progress Alex Sparkes taking play well into Swindon territory, Swindon get their hands on the loose ball but good Blues defence forces a knock on, scrum won Blues quickly spread the ball out to winger Cameron Golby Barr who is gone up the touchline to score, Dan Thorne converts the long kick 24-0 25 mins

This time Duncan Craigen takes the restart kick and crashes through a couple of tackles before Alex Millar makes good ground, again the ball is recycled quickly and Max Hayman sets off leaving the Swindon defenders behind, he releases Ryan Davis who stays strong and twists out of tackles to score close to the posts, Dan Thorne adds the conversion 31-0 28 mins

Straight from the Swindon restart kick Alex Millar starts the move, the ball is spread quickly wide through the backs, Cameron Golby Barr runs 50m up the touch line leaving the Swindon defenders in his wake to score wide out, the conversion is just wide, 36-0 30 mins

Blues are now playing the better rugby and straight from the kick off are soon back in Swindon’s half before a knock on halts their progress, injury time out, Swindon win their scrum and a good kick bounces into touch just outside Blues 22, Blues lineout is not straight giving Swindon an attacking scrum, they attack down the touch line but are forced into touch, again Blues lineout goes astray giving Swindon another attacking scrum.

Swindon win the scrum and put Blues under pressure for the last 5 mins winning several penalties which they kick to touch, Blues get a team yellow for persistent infringements, after another penalty Blues manage to steal the lineout and kick to touch bringing half time, time for the coaches to do their work

Blues kick off the second half into Blues corner, Swindon run the ball and win a penalty at the tackle, the kick doesn’t find touch but Blues knock on giving Swindon a scrum just in Blues half, scrum won Swindon spread the ball wide a knock on halts their progress and brings an injury time out for a Swindon player. Blues win the scrum Alex Millar sets off and play is taken wide Harvey North making ground, Blues take play back infield and quick ball finds Ben Hicks who cuts a good line to gallop through the defence to score close to the posts Dan Thorne converts 43-0 45 mins

Blues now look like they can score on every attack, Blues gather the Swindon restart kick and kick long, Swindon gather and run the ball back getting into Blues half before they are tackled into touch, Blues win the lineout and spread the ball across the pitch Alex Bancroft making one of his weaving runs before he is tackled into touch, Blues manage to steal the ball and some good play takes them back into Swindon’s half, Tom Hunt makes a good run and Blues keep the ball live and some quick passing releases Dan Thorne who dodges the defenders to score and convert 50-0 52 mins

Swindon take the restart kick and again Blues set off in attack, this time progress is halted when they knock on, Swindon just hold their scrum going backwards and run at Blues but lose possession allowing Blues to spread the ball wide and put the Swindon defence under pressure, again Blues knock on, from the scrum Swindon attack but good Blues defence forces the mistake just outside their 22, Blues have a scrum from the knock on which is won and a deep kick put well into Swindon’s half, play is brought back for an off the ball tackle penalty which Blues kick to touch
Blues win the attacking lineout and run at Swindon’s defence making good meters before a neat inside pass releases Alex Sparkes to get over and score, Dan Thorne converts 57-0 60 mins

From the restart Blues run the ball win a penalty which is slotted into touch, lineout won Blues run at Swindon but cough up possession in the tackle giving Swindon a scrum in their own half, Swindon just hold their scrum going backwards and try running at Blues but Blues knock on in the tackle just outside Swindon’s 22. Scrum collapses meaning an injury time out for a Swindon player, scrum won Swindon clear to touch, Blues win the lineout and quickly spread the ball through hands splitting the Swindon defence allowing Ben Hicks to score his second try, Dan Thorne converts 64-0 69 mins

Straight from Swindon’s restart kick Blues attack the tired looking Swindon defence making good ground before Max Hayman picks up the ball at the ruck and is off running 40 plus meters to score a great try Dan Thorne converts 71-0 71 mins

Blues run straight from the restart kick and look like running straight through the demoralised Swindon defence but the ref rules a forward pass on Swindon’s 22 giving Swindon a defensive scrum, Blues pack who are well on top disrupt the Swindon scrum and get their hands on the ball but don’t get far before conceding a penalty at the tackle, Swindon clear to touch just outside their own 22.
Swindon over throw and Blues manage to win the bouncing ball and immediately put big pressure on the Swindon defence, the ball is swept wide to Cameron Golby Barr who is soon over to score his hatrick try, Dan Thorne converts 78-0 75 mins

Swindon take the restart kick, Blues gather and run straight back at Swindon but knock on in the tackle, Swindon win their scrum and kick clear but play is brought back for a Swindon knock on, Blues win their scrum and one final attack means after several phases of play Blues break through the Swindon defence, Rory Jones making the final yards to score under the posts, Dan Thorne converts, 85-0 78 mins

Just time for Swindon to take the kick, Alex Millar takes and runs and after a couple of phases the final whistle is blown
