Blues make the long journey to Camborne and return with a consolation try bonus point

Blues travel down to Camborne on Friday evening; Saturday morning do a quick beach warm up and lunch before getting to Camborne ready for the first league game

Camborne kick off with the breeze, Blues gather and some good play and a penalty take Blues into Camborne’s 22, Camborne steal the lineout and clear to touch, they again steal Blues lineout taking play up to halfway winning a penalty at the tackle which is kicked to touch in Blues 22. Camborne attack from the lineout but good Blues defence means they manage to steal the ball and clear to touch, from the lineout Camborne take play across the pitch but progress is slow so a grubber kick is put through the Blues defensive line, Blue clear and soon concede a penalty which Camborne kick to touch back in Blues 22.
Camborne attack from their lineout but go into touch giving Blues a lineout which is won and cleared to touch. Camborne keep up the pressure on Blues defence keeping play in Blues half, on 12 mins they narrowly miss a penalty kick but a few minutes later their pressure is rewarded with another penalty which is successfully kicked 3-0 20 mins.

Blues have a couple of chances to put pressure on Camborne’s defence over the next 10 mins but mistakes or penalties mean Camborne can kick clear and relieve the pressure, Camborne have the better of the play squandering a couple of scoring opportunities, before yet another penalty gives them a kickable shot at the posts, 6-0 32 mins.

Camborne have the better of the last few minutes getting several penalties and capitalising on Blues mistakes but cannot break through the resolute Blues defence, half time Blues defence has been strong and the reason Blues are only 6 points adrift, time for the coaches to do their work.

Blues kick off the second half, Camborne gather and run getting just into Blues half before being stopped, foul play at the tackle means Blues get a yellow for retaliation and Camborne a red for stamping, Blues kick the penalty to touch, lose the lineout but Camborne’s clearance kick doesn’t find touch allowing Blues to attack, some good play sends Harvey North in under the posts, Dan Thorne converts 6-7 45 mins.

Camborne’s restart kick is returned by Blues, Camborne drop the ball allowing Chris Atkinson to kick the ball upfield, a great chase by him means he is first to the ball and dives on it to score a good try, Dan Thorne adds the long conversion 6-14 48 mins

Camborne restart and Blues are again penalised at the tackle giving Camborne a penalty which they kick to touch deep in Blues 22, lineout won their forwards maul getting over the line to score, the conversion is added 13-14 51 mins

Blues kick off, Camborne gather and clear to touch getting a scrum at Blues lineout,

Rob Drysdale off George Anderson on 52 mins

Camborne attack from their scrum getting a penalty at the tackle which is kicked to touch, from the lineout they take play quickly across the pitch breaking the Blues defence to score wide out on their right. Conversion is wide, 18-14 55 mins

Blues take the restart kick and a good chase means they are able to reclaim the ball, after a couple of phase’s Dan Thorne puts in a good cross field kick which is gathered by Kieran Jenvey to get over wide out left to score on his debut, the long conversion is just wide, Blues are back in front and back to a man advantage, 18-19 57 mins

Camborne restart Blues gather and put up a high kick, Chris Atkinson leaps and gathers the ball, Camborne take him out in the air giving Blues a penalty

Blues kick to touch win an untidy lineout but manage to get hold of the loose ball only to lose it again allowing Camborne to kick clear, Blues have an attacking lineout which Camborne steal and again clear to touch not gaining any ground, Blues attack from their lineout but concede a silly penalty allowing Camborne to clear to touch, Blues get a penalty at the lineout which is kicked to touch in Camborne’s 22

Blues lose their lineout allowing Camborne to make good ground taking play into Blues half, Blues concede a penalty at the tackle and this is the beginning of a poor 10 min period of play by the Blues which wins Cambourne the game and 5 league points, Camborne kick to touch win the lineout and their forwards maul taking play up to the try line, Blues halt play illegally according to the ref who awards a penalty try 25-19 64 mins

Camborne run back at Blues from the restart kick before putting a kick deep into Blues 22, Blues gather and under pressure clear to touch, Camborne win their lineout and an attacking spell of play takes them from one side of the pitch to the other then back before the ref awards a harsh penalty and gives Blues a yellow card to add to their woes, Camborne kick the penalty 28-19 70 mins

Camborne return Blues restart kick into touch, Blues win the lineout and run the ball, Camborne intercept a poor pass and are over to score the bonus point try under the posts, the easy conversion is kicked making the score 35-19 74 mins

Blues kick off, Camborne run at Blues and get a strange lineout when Blues are deemed to have ripped the ball into touch, lineout won Camborne make a mistake when a loose pass bounces into touch, Blues run at Camborne getting a penalty which is kicked to touch, Blues win the lineout allowing Josh Winfield to split the Camborne defence to score the bonus point try 35-24 36 mins

The last few minutes remain scoreless until Camborne kick the ball out bringing the final whistle
