Blues make hard work of just getting a much-needed win, Blues controlled big periods of the game but let Ivybridge off the hook

Ivybridge kick off on a cold but clear afternoon, Blues knock on, Ivybridge play the advantage taking play up to Blues 22 before a big tackle from Ollie Spanswick forces the knock on, Blue get a penalty at their scrum and take the scrum, Blues pack again shove Ivybridge backwards allowing Blues to break and make ground before a forward pass halts their progress, Ivybridge have a scrum just in Blues half, the Blues pack shove them back getting a penalty which is kicked to touch, lineout won Blues attack the Thorne brothers combine and get into Ivybridge’s 22 before a high tackle earns Blues a penalty and Ivybridge a yellow card, Blues take the scrum and attack, handbags still at the scrum, Blues play on taking play across the pitch before a neat kick is put into touch by Ivybridge, Blues win the lineout and maul before Tom Fieldsend makes the break to dart through and score, the conversion is just wide 10 mins 5-0

Ivybridge kick off Blues gather and kick high they manage to regather and run at Ivybridge before putting a kick into Ivybridge’s 22, Ivybridge clear to touch, Blues lineout isn’t straight giving Ivybridge a scrum, they just hold their scrum put the ball is in touch off a Blues player, Ivybridge take a short lineout which is too short giving Blues a penalty scrum, again the Blues pack shove Ivybridge backwards giving them a penalty plus 10 m for back chat, Blues kick to touch. Blues win the lineout and soon have another penalty they play the advantage but play is brought back for the penalty scrum in Ivybridge’s 22, Blues pack is dominant and again march Ivybridge backwards allowing Josh Winfield to pick up and go over to score, Dan Thorne kicks the conversion 12-0 17 mins

Blues are playing some good rugby and have produced one of their best starts to a game, sadly this doesn’t last as indecision from Ivybridge’s restart kick means Ivybridge are able to regather the ball and take play into Blues 22, Ivybridge get a penalty, they play the advantage and after a couple of phases a neat crossfield kick results in their winger Tom Scoles catching and touching down wide out right the long conversion is wide 21 mins 12-5

Blues restart, Ivybridge gather and run at Blues before kicking deep into Blues half, Blues run out of defence but are soon tackled into touch, from the lineout Ivybridge run the ball but a knock on gives Blues a scrum, Blues pack put pressure on Ivybridge and win a penalty, Dan Thorne converts 25 mins 15-5

Ivybridge restart and again Blues make a mess of gathering when they knock on giving Ivybridge a scrum just outside Blues 22, from the scrum Ivybridge attack making ground before a knock-on halts their progress and gives Blues a scrum and a chance to clear, Blues win the scrum but a loose pass backwards puts them under pressure and they have to kick clear, Ivybridge gather and run at Blues before a cross field kick to their winger gains more ground, Ivybridge get a penalty plus 10m when Blues say to much, Ivybridge kick to touch giving them an attacking 5m lineout, Blues manage to steal the lineout and clear to touch, again Blues steal the lineout on their own 22 and clear to touch on the 40m line.
Ivybridge win this lineout and run at Blues taking play across the pitch and back before they knock on in the tackle, Blues win their scrum and kick into Ivybridge’s half, they run back at Blues before they kick, Blues gather and run back to halfway before a forward pass gives Ivybridge a scrum. Ivybridge win the scrum and run at Blues but concede a penalty at the tackle, Blues kick is just kept in by Ivybridge but its dropped giving Blues a scrum just in Ivybridge’s half, Blues get a penalty at the scrum which is kicked to touch, lineout won Blues attack but again they concede a needless penalty at the tackle allowing Ivybridge to kick to touch in Blues half.
Blues steal the lineout but a knock on in the tackle gives Ivybridge a scrum, they win the scrum and take play up to Blues 22, they take play across the pitch before a loose pass forces them backwards they manage to regather the ball and break through Blues defensive line to get into Blues 22 and their prop Harvey Dunn is over to score, Luke Martell converts 15-12 half time, Blues have had the lions share of possession but have failed to put the points on the board.

Blues kick off the second half and chase, Ivybridge get a penalty which they kick to touch, Blues manage to steal the lineout and run at Ivybridge getting a penalty, Blues tap and go getting another penalty and Ivybridge get a yellow card, Blues kick to touch win the lineout but soon lose the ball when Ivybridge get a penalty which they kick to touch, Ivybridge’s lineout isn’t working and again Blues steal and run the ball getting a penalty which is kicked to touch. Blues win their lineout and maul getting another penalty in Ivybridge’s 22, Blues take the scrum and a big shove gets another penalty, Blues play the advantage and a crossfield kick is caught by Ivybridge so back for the 5m penalty scrum, again Blues dominant scrum shove Ivybridge backwards allowing Josh Winfield to pick up at the base and touch down wide out right, the conversion is just wide 20-12 46 mins

Ivybridge restart, Blues return the kick, Ivybridge run back at Blues making ground, Blues knock on in the tackle, Ivybridge play advantage and a good kick rolls into touch on Blues 5m line, Blues win their lineout and maul before they kick clear to touch on the 22 line

Ivybridge win their lineout and attack taking play across the pitch and back before putting a grubber kick through Blues defence, Blues manage to touch it down giving them a 22 drop out, Blues kick long, Ivybridge return the kick which bounces into touch in Blues 22, lineout won Blues run then kick back into Ivybridge’s half they gather and a dangerous break is ended when they concede a penalty for crossing, Blues penalty doesn’t find touch allowing Ivybridge to run then kick back into Blues half.
Blues gather and get a penalty scrum which they win and run the ball before kicking into Ivybridge’s territory, Ivybridge run at Blues making ground before a forward pass gives Blues a scrum just in Ivybridge’s half, Ivybridge get a penalty at the scrum which is kicked to touch, lineout won they take play up to Blues 22 spreading play across the pitch getting a scrum, Ivybridge win their scrum and spread play through their backs but a forward pass halts their progress and gives Blues a scrum, Blues get a penalty at the scrum and play advantage taking play across the pitch they get a scrum when Ivybridge knock on in the tackle. Blues shove the reset scrum forwards getting a penalty which is kicked to touch. Lineout won Blues attack taking play across the pitch the final pass is knocked down in the tackle by Ivybridge stopping a certain try, strangely the ref gives a Blues knock on and an Ivybridge scrum.
Ivybridge get a penalty at the scrum and a quick tap and go means they break the Blues tackles taking play into Blues 22 before they are stopped and concede a penalty at the tackle, Blues kick to touch win the lineout and soon have a penalty which is kicked to touch, lineout won Blues maul but are held up giving Ivybridge a scrum, Ivybridge hold their scrum under pressure and take play across the pitch, Blues get a penalty at the tackle which is kicked to touch. Blues attack from the lineout but they concede a penalty at the tackle which Ivybridge kick to touch, Blues steal the lineout and kick clear, Ivybridge run at Blues but lose the ball in Blues 22 allowing them to gather and run out of defence, Blues get a scrum on their own 22

Ollie Spanswick on Jack Walsh off 75 mins

Blues win their scrum and kick clear, Ivybridge gather and try running but the Blues chase is good and they hold them in their own half, Ivybridge get a scrum, again they win the scrum under pressure and some good running rugby catches Blues on the backfoot and they run through to score the conversion is kicked 79 mins 20-19

Ivybridge have got back to with in a point after being under pressure for long periods but the last 5 mins they have put Blues under pressure and got the vital score, Blues restart and Ivybridge throw everything at Blues getting back into Blues 22 but some good defence just manages to hold them out and the final whistle is blown.
A nail-biting end to a good hard-fought game of rugby, Blues probably should have won by more but credit to Ivybridge who never gave up
Blues got the deserved 4-point win but other results in the league didn’t help them, the bottom 6 teams in the league are now only separated by 5 points, all to play for
