IT WAS another thrashing at Monks Lane when Newbury Blues kicked off their home programme in South West One East.
But this time it was Blues who were dealing out the beating as they thrashed Swanage and Wareham 66-0 to get off the mark at the new level following last season’s fourth successive relegation.
Taking a step back is a long haul, but Blues took a jump in that direction by running in 10 tries against a side that escaped relegation by a single point last season.
Blues may have helped to tip them, below the bottom line this time out after the visitors collapsed after the break.
Newbury led 14-0 at the interval but surged through at will after the re-star with Josh Bartlett going on to score four tries, Josh Love and Ian Herriott two apiece and Josh Winfield and Harry Bate the others with Jack Muggeridge converting eight times.
Blues next game on Saturday is against early season leaders Swindon.
