Newbury A’s kick off their league campaign in BBO 3 with a good 11 try win
A good mixed A’s squad put in a strong performance to beat Tadley II’s at Monks Lane to start their league campaign off with a bang
Particularly pleasing was the way we seamlessly integrated some of the Colts and younger players into the squad alongside a bunch of regulars plus new members, all players having their first league runout of the season.
The first 15 mins was a scrappy affair with A’s forwards not playing as a cohesive unit making one off runs around the fringes and getting picked off by the heavier Tadley pack. Expected rustiness for our first game of the season.
However, once we clicked and started to drive as a unit up the middle and through the rucks we started to make huge headway upfield, tying in the opposition and creating space for our backs to run riot, scoreless after 15 minutes was followed up with 5 tries in the next 25 mins, the game was virtually out of reach for Tadley II’s, 29-0 at halftime
The second half belonged to Newbury A’s and a further 6 tries and 38 points followed to make Newbury A’s start to the 2018/2019 season in BBO Div 3 a great day at Monks Lane.
