Newbury immediately put Beaconsfield under pressure and spent the first five minutes attacking the Beaconsfield defence with some great running rugby. Eventually the Newbury forwards broke through to score wide out on their right, Rob Parker touching down 5-0.
Newbury were playing some of the best rugby they have produced so far this season, running from defence and offloading the ball to the supporting players making good ground on all occasions. After another flowing move the ball was released to Tiago Dias to charge through several tackles to score wide out on the left 10-0.
Newbury kept up the pressure and this time the forwards had a go marching through Beaconsfield’s defence for James Lamden to score 15-0.
Towards the end of the first half another flowing move released Jonny Lamport to sidestep the Beaconsfield defence to score under the posts, Tiago Dias converting 22-0.
The first half ended with yet another flowing move the ball passing through several hands eventually ending with Tiago Dias crashing through several tackles to score his second try 27-0.
Beaconsfield rallied in the second half and the first 20 minutes remained scoreless both sides having the chances to score but good defence kept the opposition from scoring. Newbury eventually broke the Beaconsfield defensive line for Freddie Mills to score under the posts, Jordan Ethelston converting, 34-0.
Newbury were back in the groove and several minute later the ball was moved through the backs and a kick and chase saw Ross Thompson put the Beaconsfield fullback under enough pressure that the ball was lost allowing Ross to touch down, 39-0.
Newbury kept up the pressure and had several more scoring opportunities but were just thwarted by Beaconsfield’s game defence. With only a few minutes remaining Newbury spun the ball out through the backs allowing Jordan Ethelston enough space to break through the Beaconsfield defensive line and make 30 or so yards to score under the posts, Freddie Mills converting 46-0 and the final whistle.
Great squad performance, the forwards hunting in packs and turning over the ball at regular intervals and the backs passing the ball at speed and always making good ground, a great performance from all. Well Done.
Credit must also go to Beaconsfield who never gave up and kept going to the final whistle making it a great game to watch
Also thanks to the parents for the great support on a cold and damp Sunday morning
Next weekend Newbury travel to Chinnor for a OBB Div 1 League game
