Newbury's 2nd league fixture for the season was played at Monks Lane, Newbury.

Newbury U18 Colts vs Redingensians U18 Colts
OBB League Fixture - 5th October 2014

Newbury's 2nd league fixture for the season was played at Monk's Lane, Newbury. The Newbury side fielded a number of changes from the previous weekend but the team soon gelled and got into their stride.

The home side came out of the changing room determined to take the game to their local rivals, and this was evident immediately when Ollie Cooper broke upfield, from the resulting ruck on the 22, Alex Heed broke clear and scored Newbury's first try. Shortly after on the other side of the pitch, close to Ensian's line, Adam Foster timed his run perfectly from a ruck and picked up Newbury's second. Ensian's struck back with 2 tries and conversions of their own, the first through a break in the centres and the 2nd out wide. Newbury again came back and pressed on the Ensians line, a clearance kick landed on the 22 and was picked up by Calum Malone, who hurled himself at the line to score Newbury's third. James Lewis scored the conversion to make it 17-15 at half-time.

Newbury kept up the pressure in the 2nd half, through strong forward play and some creative back line play. The next try came from hooker, George Anderson, who broke through the Ensians defence and beat a number of players on the way to the line. Lewis Rawlings (Rocky) was next on the score sheet with a short distance effort. Ensians again fought back with two more tries of their own, the second effort a concerted drive to get over the Newbury Line. With the match in Newbury's favour but far from over, Newbury came back on the attack and were rewarded with a 3 point a penalty. Then followed another break in midfield by George Anderson, who made 40 metres heading towards " Blues Corner", but somehow the last 5 metres to the line were allusive and the score remained unchanged. The final Newbury score came from the ever hungry Ollie Cooper who ran in a fine try. With 2 conversions to add in to the overall total, Newbury were victors 39-24.

Overall this was a very determined and effective Newbury performance with all plays making significant contributions throughout the afternoon.
