We knew it would be tough....

On Sunday Newbury Colts travelled to Buckinghamshire to play the 2nd round of the National Colts Cup. They knew that the Amersham & Chiltern were a strong and well organised side, who had done well previously in the competition.

Newbury kicked off with the wind but were soon pressed back by a strong running and tackling Amersham side. Throughout the half Newbury battled hard and were rewarded by a try from George Bicknell who collected a chip from centre Jordan Ruddock to touch down. At half time Amersham led 21-5.

With the wind into their faces, Newbury faced a stern test in the second half, but stuck to their guns and put in a spirited performance and had plenty of possession and territory. The match finished with Newbury driving forward to the Amersham line but they were again repelled and the whistle blew with Amersham the victors 40-5.

The Newbury side have come a long way in recent weeks and will continue to progress. Although the result was a set back, the door now opens on the Plate Competition and the squad are keen to do well.
