Newbury RFC U13 A team produced a very strong set of performances at the Reading RFC U13/14 tournament, emerging as overall winners, without conceding a single point. Having beaten Reading in their first game 21-0, followed by Redingensians 7-0, the Blues capped the day with a 33-0 victory over Abingdon and a 21-0 win over Reading Abbey. Tries were scored by Louis Carnell (3), James Barker (2), Felix Brader, Matt Gaskell, James Daly, Fraser Hart, Matt Kean, Eugene Malherbe and Oli Rhoads. Oli Rhoads was successful with 10 out of 11 conversions and Matt Gaskell with a further one.

Newbury RFC U13 B’s had a tough series of games having to play 3 A team squads, narrowly losing 0 -7 to Hungerford A’s and then 0 – 22 to Basingstoke A’s they rallied and saw off Redingensians 10 – 0 and then in a great game they beat Wallingford A’s 7 – 0. Reading B’s conceded a win in the final game. A huge pat on the back for the B’s for sticking at it, showing some great determination and really working for each other. Many thanks to all the players who played out of position for our team.

Over all a great start to the season by both squads and there are plenty of positives to build on.
