A great day had by all.

On the 12th of December Cheam school kindly hosted Newbury RFC U9, U10, U11, U13.
This friendly fixture was scheduled to help with development of the new rules of play at Cheam and also as a warm up for the forthcoming Rugby Season. It was also great publicity for NRFC and we hope that some of the Cheam boys will come and join us at NRFC. NRFC players playing for Cheam included Dillon Benson(C), Leo Prest and Henrik Wenden.
Although the results below seem somewhat one sided the Cheam boys fought hard throughout the matches and they should be commended, considering this was one of the first matches of the season with newly formed squads against battle hardened Newbury squads. I am hopeful we can run a similar fixture in the coming years.

Many thanks to Cheam for being such great hosts
Well played Newbury for showcasing some quality Rugby.

Cheam 1st XV 0 Newbury U13 A 42

Newbury U13 As produced a strong performance against a resilient Cheam 1st XV . The forwards put on a powerful display at both the set piece and the breakdown, setting the platform for some barnstorming runs from No.8, Louis Carnell and blindside, Scott Wallace. The link between forwards and backs was intelligently controlled by scrum half, Felix Brader and fly half, Matt Gaskell, with the backs running powerfully and punching big holes in the opposition defence, with Fraser Hart, James Daly and Oli Rhoads all shining. Our defensive performance was excellent, with the team keeping their eighth clean sheet of the season, with Matt Kean and Eugene Malherbe prominent in snuffing out a number of attacks down their respective wings. Tries were scored by Fraser Hart (2), James Daly, Oli Rhoads, Scott Wallace and Louis Carnell, all of which were converted by Oli Rhoads.

Cheam 2nd XV 0 - Newbury U13 B 41

A focused Newbury U13 B side, determined to make up on recent losses took on Cheam B’s and gave an excellent account of themselves. The forwards laid the platform with some strong running, great work at the breakdown and controlled set pieces. The backs then cut loose and run in five tries in the first half. The half backs worked well together with Will Wakelam in particular at fly half controlling the game. The second half saw two more tries and with Cheam giving everything trying to get a consolation score but were held out with some great defensive work by the Blues. A well deserved win.
