Swindon Supermarine visited Newbury at short notice to be able to get a fixture in for the players that missed out at Andover last Sunday.

Supermarine came with their 1st team squad and set their stall out from the start hitting the breakdown hard, releasing quick ball and put the Newbury players on the back foot for a good 4 minutes coming away with a try early for their aggressive pressure. From the restart Newbury rallied with their own play from their 22 to work their way up the pitch successfully scoring a try by Cole Whorriskey after 8 very good phases. But unfortunately from the restart Supermarine came back hard and scored after numerous missed tackles this unfortunately ran the remaining pattern of the half Newbury being 6 tries to 1 behind. Roco Power being the outstanding player of the 1st half for Newbury with great commitment in attack.

Numerous changes were made with a strong squad again of 23 players for the next half. The boys rallied after strong talks and came out on the restart more organised more committed and started to press their opponents back with Ben Tomlinson ( Newbury's Man of the match ) taking control at fly half backed up by some great forward play by Kieran Tredray winning two good turn overs in the maul also showing great commitment to the side James Robinson putting in some crunching covering tackles to keep the side in touch along with new comer Sam Robinson. This half the boys held their own going in 2-2.

The boys came out for the final 20 minutes and started off strong again at the breakdown a good strong midfield battle with some good pressure at free kicks from Seb Burgess, Joe Howell and Freddie Miller still being backed up by a very determined Ben to keep the pressure on. The final play of this half finished 2-1 to Supermarine .

So to summarise; a poor start from the players but they rallied hard and started to back themselves, built some confidence and kept up with the challenge ahead. Well done boys a lot of positives to work on, a lot of hard work required at training and the rest of the first half of this season will be rewarding.
