Newbury A (12) v Reading A (5)

A bright and clear Sunday morning gave perfect playing conditions. Newbury were set a game plan to control the break down and play controlled rugby off the back. The first 20 minutes couldn't have gone better.
All the forwards sticking to the plan winning controlled ruck ball with strong clearing out and quick ball which enabled the remaining forwards to drive forward to reset.
Reading tackled and competed fairly and a battle of the mid field eventually showed dividends with an opening for Josh Lefever to hit the gap and power through the line to break the deadlock. More controlled breakdown work and great pressure from Freddie Miller, Timothy Griffin and Cole Whoriskey hunting well together pushing the Reading pack back to create chances for Josh and Issac Nelsen to go in at the end of the 1st third 3 - 1 up. Also a mention to the back line who worked with great line speed, tackled man for man and shut down most of the attacking back runs from Reading.
The next third showed Newbury coming out with a very confident attitude some great tackling from Josh and jackal'ing with great skill to turn the ball over on several occasions giving the backs the platform to attack and score numerous tries to really put the game beyond Reading. Great carries and runs from Paddy Moran running some great lines and really powering into the first tackle to go past the game line put the team on the front foot. Good clinical finishing from the wingers saw both Barney and Teague get the chance to show their speed and skills to score some well worked opportunities.
The last third unfortunately saw Reading pick up some key injuries to their forwards and with low subs the game really looked like being brought to a premature close - but 'Cometh the Hour, Cometh the Man' with James Robinson joining forces with Reading to bolster their forwards and bring the game to Newbury. Well done James you kept the game competitive which was commented from the Reading coaches and players who were very appreciative of you efforts - especially with your crunching tackle on Josh...
Backed up by some challenging refereeing gave the Newbury team a challenging last 10 minutes which showed that they could hold their own under pressure and fatigue, Newbury showing great resiliency. Reading scoring one of the most attractive tries of the game with a kick to the winger over the top of the backs for them to cleanly catch the ball for a very well worked try.
Showing the depth of skill set from both sides at this early stage of Junior Rugby... A pleasure to watch and be apart of... Hopefully from the side lines you were very pleased with their efforts...
