Bracknell U13A 21 - Newbury U13A 17

The A’s has their first league game against Bracknell, which proved to be as competitive as we would have expected. Throughout the game Newbury had the edge up front, with some excellent technique and commitment in rucks and mauls, leading to the lion’s share of possession. However, Bracknell had an extremely well drilled back line who played a fantastic rush defence throughout the match, giving our backs very little space to be creative, and consequently little ground was made.

Bracknell were up 7-5 at half time – a breakaway try from them, followed by a closely worked try from Newbury. Soon after half time, another breakaway try put them up 14-5, and things looked to be in trouble. However, good running and rumbling from Newbury led to us grinding out two tries to get into a narrow 17-14 lead with 5 minutes to go.

The last 5 minutes were spend camped in our 22....and unfortunately Bracknell made it over the line with the last play of the match. Fantastic effort from all the boys. Player of the Day to Ollie Hassell-Collins for numerous strong runs on the wing.
